MyOrigins.io ("we," "us," the "Service") is a conversational tool for recording family history: an AI-guided interview, document upload and transcription, background genealogical research, and a way to invite family members to contribute their own memories. It is a research and storytelling aid, not a professional genealogy, legal, or records service, and its output is not a substitute for professional genealogical certification, legal advice, or an official vital record.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By creating one, you confirm that you meet this requirement. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Let us know right away if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
You can invite other people ("contributors") to share their own memories through the Service. When you do, you're representing that you have a genuine relationship with that person and a good-faith basis for reaching out to them. Don't use the invite feature to contact people who have asked not to be contacted, or for any purpose other than inviting a real family member or acquaintance to contribute to a family history project.
You keep ownership of the stories, facts, and documents you and your contributors provide (your "Content"). You grant us a license to store, process, and use your Content solely to provide and improve the Service - for example, to run the interview, extract facts from documents you upload, and generate research based on what you've shared. We do not sell your Content and do not use it to train third-party AI models beyond what's needed to generate your own responses in the moment (see the Privacy Policy for detail on the AI providers involved).
You're responsible for having the right to share any document or story you upload, including anything belonging to or concerning another living person. Family history often touches on other people's lives - be thoughtful about what you share about people who haven't consented to being part of your project, particularly living relatives.
Research findings, transcriptions, and extracted facts are generated by AI systems, including AI-driven web searches. They can be incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong. We tag findings with an evidence-quality indicator (for example, "documented" versus "hypothesis") to help you gauge reliability, but this is a guide, not a guarantee. Verify anything important - names, dates, legal relationships, medical or biographical claims - against original sources before relying on it, publishing it, or acting on it.
